Gold Star Services Network at the Coca-Cola 600 : Honoring Heroes at 200 mph

This Memorial Day weekend, Gold Star Services Network had the distinct honor of being part of a powerful tribute at one of NASCAR’s most prestigious races — the Coca-Cola 600. The event, held at Charlotte Motor Speedway, served as more than just a race; it was a moment of remembrance, recognition, and heartfelt appreciation for the sacrifices of our nation’s fallen heroes.

Thanks to an incredible invitation from Carl Cline and the HAAS Racing Team, our organization was not only welcomed to the event — we were given full-access passes that provided an unforgettable experience. From the pits and garages to driver meetings and private team buses, our Gold Star families were treated with immense respect, generosity, and compassion by everyone involved in the NASCAR community.

One of the most meaningful moments of the weekend came courtesy of the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Team, who featured the name of FN Jeffrey M. Svoboda, U.S. Coast Guard, across the windshield of Kyle Busch’s No. 8 Zone Chevrolet. This tribute was part of NASCAR’s Memorial Day tradition of honoring fallen service members, and we were deeply moved to see Boda’s name leading the charge on race day.

Known as “Boda” by his friends and fellow servicemen, Jeffrey Svoboda joined the Coast Guard in 2003. He served with distinction at Air Stations Atlantic City, NJ, and Cape Cod, MA. At the time of his passing, he was an active-duty EE3 Fireman. Over his seven years of service, Boda earned several commendations, including a Letter of Commendation from the Coast Guard Commandant for his role in a life-saving search and rescue mission off the coast of New Jersey. He also won the “Last Man Standing” Physical Endurance competition during basic training with Yankee Company – 165 in Cape May, NJ.

Having his name on the No. 8 car, surrounded by roaring fans and the thunder of engines, was a powerful and emotional reminder that the memory of our fallen is alive — and honored — in every corner of American life, even at 200 mph.

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to those who went above and beyond to make this experience exceptional:

  • Spencer and Maury Gallagher of GMS Racing and Allegiant Airlines – Your hospitality and kindness made a lasting impact. Thank you for treating our families like your own.

  • Joe Farre of SPS Racing – Thank you for an unforgettable day and your incredible generosity throughout the event.

  • Steve Phelps, Commissioner of NASCAR – Your warm welcome and heartfelt words reminded our families just how valued and supported they are.

  • Perri Hiergesell of NASCAR Driver Relations – Your organization and dedication ensured a seamless and meaningful experience for every member of our group.

  • Mike Burch of Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI) – Thank you for your ongoing partnership and commitment to honoring those who serve.

We are especially grateful to HAAS Racing for their generous invitation and hospitality. Their commitment to our mission and to Gold Star families was on full display throughout the weekend. And to RCR Racing and the entire NASCAR organization — thank you for your continued support and recognition of those who gave their lives in service to this country.

The Coca-Cola 600, broadcast live on Amazon Prime on Sunday, May 25, wasn’t just a race. It was a tribute. A statement. And an unforgettable experience we will cherish forever.

From all of us at Gold Star Services Network — thank you for remembering. Thank you for honoring. And thank you for standing with our families.
